Lake Geneva is located in Southeastern Wisconsin, ten miles north of the Illinois state line and I-43 is six miles to the North, I-94 is 27 miles to the East. Route 12 is on the city’s eastern border. The city is located approximately ninety minutes from O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, and forty five minutes from General Mitchell International Airport, Milwaukee. Private and small planes can land at the local Burlington airport.
The lake and town were originally named after the town of Geneva, New York, located on Seneca Lake, to avoid confusion with the nearby town Geneva, Illinois, was renamed Lake Geneva; later the lake was renamed Geneva Lake.
Recently named as one of America’s top 10 honeymoon destinations and used as the setting for James Patterson’s best selling romantic novel: “Sam’s Letter to Jennifer”. Lake Geneva continues to enhance its appeal to the public with the new Driehaus family fountain at the Riveira, the new water cascade at the millpond and the new and improved Lake Geneva Museum, featuring the streets of old Lake Geneva.
Lake Geneva is also a shopper’s dream with over 150 shops and boutiques throughout the area. Downtown Lake Geneva is an authentic, turn-of-the-century architecture with and interesting blend of period building styles.
